Created by Ying Shengxiang, a Jingdezhen ceramic artist and an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of falangcai (Chinese enamel painting), this 100 ml porcelain teacup brings a traditional art into an intimate form. On a white porcelain cup fired at Xujiayao, Ying designed the floral composition, drew its intricate outlines and applied the colors by hand. The dense, flowing pattern reveals the care and precision behind each stage of her work.
The white porcelain cup was fired at Xujiayao, a historic wood-fired kiln in Jingdezhen dating back to the late Ming dynasty. Ying designed the floral composition and painted its colors by hand. Pink blossoms emerge from a finely detailed field of turquoise and green, with the design flowing around the cup’s curved surface. The plain white interior offers a quiet contrast to its richly painted exterior.
Enamel painting calls for a steady hand and a close understanding of color and detail on porcelain. Ying’s command of the technique can be seen in the delicate outlines, layered colors and balanced arrangement of flowers and leaves. Her mark appears on the base.
With a 100 ml capacity, this small cup is suited to unhurried moments with tea. Presented in its gift box, it also makes a thoughtful gift or a distinctive addition to a porcelain collection.
